Kevin Drum expects more of the same

Kevin Drum has an article where he basically predicts all current trends will continue for the next 30 years. The article reminds me very much of all the articles written during the 1960s that basically said “5% annual growth will continue forever and 100 years from now we will all be super wealthy and no one will ever work and everything will be perfect”, and then 1973 came a long and the post-war boom ended and we suddenly had increasing poverty and concentrating wealth. I think articles like this are the political pundit version of “this time it’s different” economic stories that always get going towards the end of an economic boom (I mean those articles that tell you why the boom will last forever, written shortly before the boom ends).
