Why I hate Ruby On Rails

I’m trying to help a friend with a very small Ruby On Rails project, where she needs a few elements of the interface tweaked. But this is Ruby On Rails, so of course I’m losing 3 hours trying to get setup. I’ve been drawn into the endless swamp of upgrading various libraries, which seems to be an automatic part of dealing with Ruby On Rails. If this was Clojure, or NodeJS, setup would have taken 5 minutes and I would have spent the last 3 hours doing actual work. Instead I’m stuck tracking down error messages on StackOverflow to see what I should do. Here are some screenshots of various issues that have come up:

It just drags on and on. For small projects, I spend more time on setup than actual work, when dealing with Ruby On Rails.
