Why I hate WordPress

(written by Lawrence Krubner, however indented passages are often quotes)

I really hate WordPress sometimes. It’s security flaws are incredible. Now, this website (I mean, the one you are reading, the Smash Company) has been hacked. You can tell from this screenshot (the headlines are all spam):

I’ve run into this hack before, and I recall it is very tough to get out. It is a quiet trojan attack too, since it does not obviously disrupt the site, but it does serve bogus results to the search engines.

I stick with WordPress out of inertia, even though I know there are other blog platforms out there that are more secure. WordPress is to start with. But it is a pain to maintain, especially since you have to upgrade it constantly to avoid bugs. I never have the time. We set this site up last summer and have not upgraded it since.
