Thanks for bringing it to our attention Stephen Gordon of Hammer of Truth. So far as I can tell, this guy’s being kept from what seems like fair treatment. Odd power trip in the political system keeping him from utilizing medication that has clearly proven to keep him alive. There’s a call for phone calls at Kn@ppster. That seems to be the best method of support on this one outside of making donations:
ATTENTION! KEEP CALLING THE JAIL MEDICAL CENTER @ 530-745-8660 AND REQUESTING THAT STEVE SEE AN OUTSIDE DOCTOR. CONTINUE TO CALL THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ABOUT THE MOTION INTO COURT FOR EDIBLES TO BE GIVEN TO STEVE. THANKS EVERYONE!

Yet another man faces death by neglect in the face of an unjust legal system. He’s a bit more controversial due to the nature of his medication. I’m not one to stamp a pot leaf on my forehead in his honor… as I think that defeats the purpose. The point is that this man is in need of marijuana for medicinal reasons, not recreational. It seems counterproductive to recruit potheads to shout in unison… Yeah, legalize it! I’m not sure that’s the message we need to project. I’m saddened any time the principle of the matter becomes more important than the individuals. That seems to be the recurring problem. There’s a smidge too much ego in our political system. I think there’s an air of, “Are you challenging me?” and the rest is the story that follows. We are free in this country so long as we comply with what the government proposes that we enjoy and medicate ourselves the way the government endorses and eat the way the government wants us to and well, drive the cars and walk the walk and watch the movies they give a thumbs up. No funding for independent films with serious dogmatic issues, no funding for careers that do nothing for the advancement of warfare, no funding for foods that do not benefit the elite who’ve benefited from largescale malnourishment. Well, that list could clearly go on and on. For now… please review some of the facts Stephen has been kind enough to forward to us… it’s just a shame, that’s all. The man needs his pot, really. When did medicinal marijuana fall off the pharmaceudical shelves? I just assumed this had been deemed worthy. I don’t really understand how he’s in jail in the first place.

From Stephen Gordon at Hammer of Truth:

1. They need money. The Kubby Defense Fund is the most appropriate place to do. The key need for money now is for marinol. Michele was cryptic about Steve’s dosage, so I don’t have the details. However, my wife is a physician, and says a typical (twice a day) dosage costs around $1K per month. According to the Kubby site, he may be one 3 or 6 times that dosage.

2. We need to get more mainstream media attention, which I hope to push (and have been doing) with the blogosphere.

3. He does have a court hearing on Friday. Media (mainstream and Internet) attention will help in this regard, as at least the judge will know he can’t sweep this one under the rug.

General background and links:

1. Kubby was one of the key people behind California’s Prop 215 (the CA medical marijuana law). Wiki contains this and other historical data

2. Kubby ran for Governor of California as a Libertarian. A campaign commercial of his won the AAPC Pollie Award for the year.

3. For the oldest data on his recent status, either the Kubby site or Hammer of Truth has the greatest level of detail. There is enough coverage out there now that Google News and Technorati are required to get all of the most recent details.
